May Employee Spotlight

May Employee Spotlight: Every month we will share a little bit about the faces behind the many programs at SRDA.

Meet Donna Guerrero, Recreation Coordinator and Senior Service Coordinator at SRDA’s Richmond Apartments. Donna has been with SRDA for over seven years, initially working part-time as the Senior Service Coordinator. In July 2021, she became full-time after accepting the additional duties as the Coordinator of SRDA’s Recreation Department. Donna has done an outstanding job of getting creative with recreation opportunities despite our building closure during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. She has been an asset to our agency and to the older adults we serve, offering more outdoor adventures in the interest of remaining safer outdoors due to COVID-19. Some new and exciting opportunities she has been able to provide include moonlight hikes, computer classes, free food market distributions, quilting group gatherings, museum tours and out of town trips.

Donna loves the social engagement with our seniors and meeting new people through recreational experiences, she states, “This is the best thing about my job!” Donna came to us after over 25 years of serving as a childcare center director. She enjoys gardening and outdoor activities in her free time. Donna has three daughters and two dogs she enjoys spending time with. We are excited to reopen our building as our final renovation projects wrap up. After COVID-19 hit, we took the opportunity to complete some much-needed construction and renovation projects within the building. We are hopeful to once again open our doors to drop-in recreation activities by June. Older Adults age 50 and over will once again be able to come socialize, gather, play card games, quilt, knit, play pool, use our exercise equipment, and much more here at our Joseph H. Edwards Active Adult Center. Donna has been busy preparing so that we can run all recreational programs seamlessly.

Donna goes above and beyond the scope of her job duties, volunteering to help with SRDA’s major fundraiser each year during the Chile and Frijoles Festival. Keep an eye out for details of our fundraising activities at the 2022 Chile and Frijole Festival! Donna has also been instrumental in helping to train our new senior service coordinator at Union Plaza apartments and the new senior service coordinator at Oakshire Trails Apartments as well. Her hard work is recognized and appreciated; she is a true asset to our team. Thank you, Donna, for your dedication to Pueblo’s aging adults!
