[ARCHIVED] May Employee Spotlight

Deni Steele, SRDA Bookkeeper

Meet Deni Steele, Bookkeeper for SRDA for the past 12 ½ years. Deni oversees payments to and from the agency, manages all donations and helps each department with their monthly billing. Her hard work shines through each month when the “checkbook” is balanced! She is a skilled multi-tasker who has the phone on one ear, workers asking for change in the other all while entering financial data and accepting payments at the window. In fact, she said that her interactions with clients and coworkers is her favorite part of the job. She keeps a smile on her face and kind words for everyone who needs her attention. These are skills she has honed here and in her past employment as an office manager of a courier service, writing warranties for an auto dealer and as a florist for a mail order flower service. She was also a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) while caring for her grandma.

She definitely has a great sense of humor at the same time as accomplishing her goals. This was proven years ago, while in the course of her bill payment duties, she submitted a joke payment requisition for “1 Doberman” and listed the cost as “Priceless.” (Unfortunately, the fiscal controller and another supervisor at the time signed off on it and it was “approved” …of course she came clean about having an office guard dog.) Deni privately purchased a Betta fish named Sparky for her fishbowl, which is still a fixture on her desk - seen in the photo above.

Deni was born and raised in Colorado Springs and married her husband, Craig, 28 years ago. Together they are raising 2 Dobermans (Angus & Xena the Warrior Princess and 2 workshop cats named Cinnamon & Leo) on a plot of land on the Arkansas River just east of town where she loves to try her luck snagging a few catfish for dinner while her husband goes hunting for big game. While they are avid homebodies, they just built a cabin in the cooler mountain town of Guffey and look forward to taking their ATVs for a spin around that area this summer and out of the heat of Pueblo. She recently celebrated a milestone birthday with her sisters from Florissant and New Jersey.

Thank you, Deni, for your outstanding work in serving SRDA clients and staff!
