Meals on Wheels Volunteer Opportunities
Meals on Wheels is always looking for volunteers. Here are the details:
- Volunteers can volunteer for as many delivery days as they like (once a week, once a month) -or- they can volunteer to be on an on-call basis
- Our services are Monday-Friday. Volunteers pick up their meals to be delivered at 10:30-11:00am, and usually have 8-12 stops.
- Routes are usually complete in 1 – 1.5 hours on a normal day
- Volunteers are given a route sheet to work from, but it is recommended to bring your cell phone to map the route with GPS.
- Volunteers have the option of tracking their milage and receiving a milage reimbursement of $.60/mile. Most take advantage of this reimbursement.
- Volunteers receive lunch that day and snacks!
- Volunteers are required to fill out an application and be background checked. The link to the application is https://www.srda.org/207/Volunteer-Application-Process
- Volunteers are required to have a valid driver’s license and insurance on their vehicle and must be 18 or older.
- This is a great opportunity for someone who might need hours of volunteering, property tax work off program, those needing to complete community service, and high school students that need volunteer hours (with a sponsor who is 18 or over).
- It takes about 1 week from the time the application is submitted to start volunteering.
- If you are interested in working as a 2-person team, we can do that as well!
Our volunteers find this opportunity very rewarding, and it can be as long or short as you want. If you would like a short route to work over your lunch hour, we can do that. If you want a longer route to get more of the milage reimbursement, we can do that as well.
It is an opportunity to get to know your neighbors.
The MOW staff and team is here to support the drivers with any questions they may have. Please call 719-543-0100
